On Tuesday, May 16 2023, the group learned a lot about Lord Roland Hill, and the column which was erected to commemorate his involvement in many military campaigns, including the Napoleonic wars and the Battle of Waterloo.
Chris Konstan has been a speaker for the group before and is thoroughly engaging. A great deal was learnt.
The subject gave us an opportunity to recite a poem written by Michel Carding in 2013 about a possible descent from his Doric, column of Lord Hill, and his roaming through Shrewsbury before climbing back up onto the column.
We were grateful for volunteers from the group, some of whom must’ve had involvement with drama before!
